Self Collection | The pattern collection “Self” is full of unique, imperfectly perfect patterns named for different experiences one has as a human being. What began as inspiration from a beautifully unique photo of a salon turned into abstractions and finally into colorful patterns. Different colors, motions, and meanings define these patterns, truly bringing the meaning of “self” to lightthrough art.
Self: A person’s essential being that distinguishes them from everybody else.
Virago
“Latin: A strong, brave, warlike woman.”

The beginning of the “Self” collection is “Virago.” An illusion of a circle is an important piece of this pattern, alluding to the infinite and strong nature of a woman. But, as with any human being, the scribbles on top remind one that nobody can be rigid at all times. Sometimes, a person must let their guard down and find the imperfect joy in life.
Wabi-Sabi

“Japanese: the discovery of beauty in imperfection.”

This pattern has elements of clean, sleek lines but also finds itself discovering the beauty of the imperfect organic lines off to the sides of the shapes. We can find such beauty in ourselves, despite our flaws.
Ukiyo

“Japanese: floating world. The cycle of life.”

Also described as detaching oneself from the bothers of life, this pattern converys just that with its single, unbroken line that connects in some places and not in others. Just like in life, the pattern is sometimes halting and other times smooth.
Collywobbles

“Latin: Inner anxiety; butterflies in the stomach.”

Everyone has experienced some sort of anxiety in their life and the irregular and fluid motion of the pattern replicates that feeling, thus the name.
Retrouvailles

“French: the happiness of meeting someone that is very dear to you after a very long time.”

This pattern forms connecting lines that almost look like a heart-shape made from two hands. In life, we often lose ourselves to the responsibilities we hold. It is important to rediscover and take care of ourselves.
Forelket

“Danish: The euphoria of first falling in love.”

This pattern finds itself going up and down in waves, just as one does when falling in love for the first time. Whether it be with a soulmate or oneself, the euphoria of falling in love is intricate and bold like this pattern.
Orphic

“Greek: Mysterious and entrancing.”

This pattern encourages the eye to analyze every part to find a beginning and end. However, it may be impossible to find such a thing, just as it is impossible to truly understand the intricacies of our individual souls.
Cicurate

“Latin: To tame or reclaim from wildness.”

A nod to typical animal prints, this pattern brings in an element of the wild that every person has within themselves and unifies it in one beautiful space.
Agapi

“Greek: the highest form of selfless love.”

This pattern brings in red, a color typically associated with passion and love, and adds a thin design with gold-like yellow to tame it slightly. This alludes to the type of feisty love that comes without bounds and yet is pure and kind.
Ludic

“Finnic: Fun, playful spirit.”

A pattern that feels warm and bright as a nod to the child-like spirit that lives in every person, old and young.
